Chiesa di Santa Croce

It was founded in the 15th century. Nowadays it is a simple single nave plan building. On the left side of the entrance is kept a fragment of a fresco which is thought to be what remains of the decorations probably made by il Sodoma. He was a friend of Iacopo 5th d'Appiano, lord of Piombino, and for this he sometimes stayed here. Also a beautiful 16th century wooden "Crucifix" is thought to come from here. It was taken away from the small chapel of the cemetery in 1995; recently it was restored and set in the Museo Civico-Diocesano in Piombino.
